The Glòria Soler Foundation is a non-profit entity founded in 2015 by Josep Suñol Soler, in memory of his mother. The Glòria Soler Foundation is based in Barcelona, from where it develops programmes which aspire to global relevance. Remaining loyal to its founder’s vision, the Foundation collaborates in research for global health and projects conceived to bring art closer to individuals, two areas of activity that are held to be fundamental for all of society.
Josep Ildefons Suñol i Soler (Barcelona, 1927–2019), the son of Josep Suñol i Garriga and Glòria Soler Elias, was a businessman, lawyer and collector of contemporary art. He had a long and fruitful career as a philanthropist, both as a collector and patron of the arts, and for his contributions to social advancement and art promotion through his two foundations: the Glòria Soler Foundation and the Suñol Foundation.
The Foundation encourages networked activity. Through research, creativity and the spread of knowledge, it seeks the scalability of all its initiatives so that they might benefit the greatest number of individuals.
Since 2015, it has contributed to various programmes in the field of health, amongst which feature: support for the Paediatric Palliative Care Unit of the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu; support for the development of a therapeutic vaccine and clinical trials to fight HIV/AIDS, as led by the IrsiCaixa team; and collaboration with Project Ari of the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona, focused on the treatment of leukaemia.
Since 2020, given the exceptional health emergency situation generated by the global pandemic, the Glòria Soler Foundation has focused its efforts and resources on improving knowledge of the new SARS-CoV-2 virus, as well as helping the most vulnerable population. Collaboration is essential to advance the treatment and prevention against COVID-19 and to alleviate the effects of the economic and social crisis on the population.
In the field of art, the Glòria Soler Foundation works together with the Suñol Foundation, a private non-profit organisation which in 2002 opened the collection of Josep Suñol to the public, taking on a fundamental societal role in the cultural context through the promotion of contemporary art.
Both Foundations, working together, encourage public programmes and educational projects in contemporary art that are conceived for a diversity of societal groups, in dialogue with a broad range of cultural and social agents and share the legacy of the Suñol Soler Collection.
The Glòria Soler Foundation is committed to the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs cover the social, economic and environmental dimension of sustainability and address five major areas: planet, people, prosperity, peace and alliances.
