The Glòria Soler Foundation collaborates with the Jiser Residences 2022/2023, a project promoted by the Jiser Reflexions Mediterrànies association. These residencies aim to support the mobility of young artists and their works in the Mediterranean space, providing them with a place of creation in which they can work in relation to the local cultural and social context.
The Creation Residencies project was launched in 2010 in a first format linking the cities of Tunisia and Barcelona (TNS>BCN 2010-2014) and was expanded in 2016 by adding the city of Algeria (BCN>TNS>ALG 2016-2017).
Currently, a new edition is underway with a residency format that will occupy the period of 2022-2023, in three stages: Sousse (Tunisia) between the months of May and June 2022; Algeria between October and November 2022; and Barcelona between January and February 2023.
The artists selected through a public call are:
Sousse stage: Miguel Alejos, Kenza Daoud and Sirine Touibi
Algerian stage: Dorra Mahjoubi, Dani Pujalte and Issam Larkat
Barcelona stage: Hakim Rezaoui, Amira Lamti and Javier Arango
Each of the participating artists will carry out a two-month plastic research and experimentation in one of the selected cities, to develop a personal artistic project in a teamwork environment, where they will be accompanied by guest curators Wissem l’Abed (in the city of Sousse), Aicha Ikheteah (in Algeria) and Houari Bouchenak, who will carry out a global follow-up virtually.
These residencies are a tool for artists and their productions. From this perspective, Jiser reaffirms its willingness to support young creation that develops in the artistic and cultural contexts of these territories.
This project is possible thanks to the collaboration of Galerie Elbirou de Sousse, Box24 and Brokk’Art in Algeria and Hangar and the collective Sabers migrants in Barcelona. In addition, it receives the support of the Institut Ramon Llull, the Glòria Soler Foundation, the OSIC of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Barcelona City Council and the Embassies of Spain and the Cervantes Institutes in Tunisia and Algeria.
